At the Sharpening Shack, we professionally hand sharpen & set most wood cutting hand saws. Our service includes setting and sharpening the blade teeth. Whether you have a antique hand saw passed down to you through your family or you have a favorite hands saw you use for everyday use, let us tune it up for you!!!

When to sharpen?

There are many things that one should consider when making a decision if a saw needs sharpened or not. First and foremost, you should inspect the teeth. If the teeth are regular and even, and "grab" the palm of your hand slightly when you push against them, your saw probably is fine as it is. By grab, I mean that if the teeth are sharp, they will snag the skin of your hand and then release it. Don't do it so hard that you cut yourself.

You will immediately be able to tell with a light touch if your saw is dull. If however, the teeth are uneven and don't seem sharp to the touch, your saw will definitely need filing before you will be able to do useful work with it.

Basic Sharpening Services Include the following:

• Minor cleaning of saw blade to remove minor rust and pitch

• Setting of saw teeth

• Filing of saw teeth with hand file

• De-burr sides of teeth

• Apply paste wax to prohibit rust and aid with a smooth sawing motion

We do some Japanese hand saws & pruner saws but we need a photo before we quote a price.

Additional Hand Saw Services:

We sharpen all crosscut and rip hand saws by hand, we set the saws either by hand or a rapid saw set to assure ease of cutting. We can set the hand saws to a different PPI or TPI setting based upon your request. Minimum 48 hour service.
